ONE HEART ARTS

Bookmaking and Creative Arts Workshops with Artist Jeannie Hunt

About Jeannie

Jeannie M. Hunt is a book artist, illustrator and education specialist. Her own art work explores family history, sacred space and a sense of place in books that flip over, pop up and fold out into inventive and whimsical shapes. Jeannie teaches bookmaking workshops for children, teachers and adults that incorporate creative writing, illustration and innovative book structures. The projects she designs are easy to build and fun to fill. Students learn to tell stories with pictures and words that help them find their place in the world as they learn about other cultures and traditions. Her workshops and residencies have been offered in a variety of settings including libraries, classrooms, and community art projects.

Jeannie was featured as a local artist on WGBY's Literacy Day for her bookmaking work with children, and is the co-designer of Intersections: A City of Stories, a community-based book arts and oral history project that allows middle school students to explore the lives and tell the stories of local immigrants. She is a registered "Creative Teaching Partner" with the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Jeannie is a member the River Valley Illustrators. Her illustrations appear in the Core Curriculum Storybook Series (Baha'i Publishing Trust) and her book arts projects have been published in Brilliant Star and Tabellae Ansatae magazines. Jeannie serves on the board of Spirit of Children, an organization that explores the arts in community development and hosts annual conferences for children's book artists, writers and musicians. She also works in her local community in the Interfaith Arts Project, promoting the arts as a way of building bridges between people of diverse faith traditions. Jeannie is a graduate of Smith College and she lives in Northampton, MA.
